A bit of homework for our parents!

After having been a CCS parent, even for a few days, you will probably have noticed that we speak a whole new language of our own! We have supervisors instead of teachers, PACEs instead of books, Math instead of Maths, Learning Centers instead of classrooms, and then there's that American spelling and punctuation. Even our reading is done with the assistance of strange symbols... I am amazed once again, after having been away from level two children for a few years, to see what a wonderful tool our sound and symbol chart is. As a child sits and ponders a word, a simple stripe or bucket shape above a letter, seems to instantly flick a switch of recognition. The symbol and sound chart is normally situated inside the cover page of most PACEs, right at the bottom. Please take some time to ask your child to explain these sounds to you and then use them to help them to unravel the mystery of new words.
